Tom Elliott and Amanda Gailiss debate prison costs on 3AW Drive

Tom Elliott says former prisoners should be forced to pay for their time in jail once they’re released.

But he’s clashed with the youth governor of Victoria over the issue.

Similar to a HECS debt, the 3AW Drive host said prisoners should be taxed once they’re reformed and back in society.

But Amanda Gailiss said that would only make prisoners less likely to reform.
