Tom Elliott has reacted to the news of two of the teenagers involved in the Northland Shopping Centre brawl on Sunday being out on bail at the time of offending.

The 3AW Mornings host highlighted the “glaring weakness” in Victoria’s justice system, and explained how the incoming ban on the sale of machetes will achieve very little.

“What we really need to do is change our legal system, change our thinking about youth offenders,” he said.

Press PLAY to hear him highlight the ‘glaring weakness’ in the system (and why the machete ban won’t achieve anything)

“Stop trying to keep them out of jail, and in fact put them in jail … teach them a lesson, protect the public from them.

“Until the government actually has a change in the way it thinks about youth justice, this sort of thing will continue.”
