Tom Elliott clashes with a Teachers for Palestine spokesperson over the Anzacs

Teachers for Palestine have revealed they want to change how the Anzac story is taught to students.

Spokesperson Lucy Honan says they want students to learn what actions the Anzacs took, especially the actions, they claim, promoted British imperialism.

“We released a resource that looks at the way the original Anzacs were involved in crushing the national revolution of the Egyptians in 1919,” she told Tom Elliott.

The 3AW Mornings host pointed out the Anzacs had been fighting against the Ottoman Empire.

“To say that ‘oh, they were imperialists’, well, the people in charge of the area were also an empire, they were just a different empire,” he said.
