Tom Elliott defends Australian actor amid social media storm

Tom Elliott has gone in to bat for Australian actor Guy Pearce after he dared to suggest non-transgender actors should be able to take on transgender roles onscreen, and vice-versa.

Pearce, who starred as a gay drag queen in the critically-acclaimed 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, has since deleted his posts on Twitter and apologised.

“I find it so stupid,” Tom Elliott said on Wednesday. “It is like we are taking leave of our senses when it comes to things like acting.”
