Tom Elliott demands harsher penalties for AFL clubs who ‘cheated’ COVID rules

Tom Elliott says the five AFL clubs who’ve been found to have breached the league’s COVID rules should face harsher consequences.
Sydney, Collingwood, Richmond, Brisbane and St Kilda were all slapped with fines, some of those suspended, for breaches of the league’s COVID testing rules.
An AFL audit found some players and staff had not undertaken rapid antigen tests within the required time period, uploaded previous test results, or uploaded results from tests taken by other people.
“This is a scandal,” Tom Elliott said on Wednesday.
“They have cheated the COVID rules.
“You are not allowed to play a game of AFL football if you have tested COVID positive, that’s why the players get tested all the time and have to submit evidence of a negative test.
“Why on earth would you submit a false test, unless it is to cover up the fact a player is positive?”
Tom Elliott said it wasn’t fair on other clubs who had done the right thing, such as West Coast.
The Eagles had their playing ranks decimated earlier in the season due to positive tests, which all but ended their hopes of making finals.
