Tom Elliott discusses whether the term ‘multiculturalism’ needs updating

Multiculturalism is a classically Australian value – but is it time for the term to be updated?

Chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission Helen Kapalos joined Tom Elliott on Friday to debate the issue.

Ms Kapalos said the term ‘celebrates cultural diversity.’

‘It’s a term that should reflect back to us who we are,’ she said.

‘We all come from somewhere, we have a story.’

But Tom said he would like everyone to be officially equal. 

‘One set of laws, one flag, one nation, one anthem. That’s it.’
