Tom Elliott says he’s horrified at reports a Melbourne City Councillor is trying to ‘buy’ the city’s deputy lord mayorship.

Cr Ken Ong, the council’s chair of planning, has told Lord Mayor Robert Doyle he wants to run as his deputy at the election in October.

He’s offered to donate $200,000 to the Lord Mayor’s campaign.

‘The idea that you can buy the deputy lord mayorship for $200,000 I just find abhorrent,’ the 3AW Drive host said.

‘These sorts of things don’t come without strings attached.

‘If Robert Doyle values democracy, he will say no.’
