Tom Elliott: Kids hormone treatment decisions should go through court
Tom Elliott and the Royal Children’s Hospital’s gender specialist have gone head to head over the Family Court’s recent landmark decision.
It follows the court’s ruling on Tuesday, that young people who experience gender dysphoria and want to undergo hormone treatment would no longer need the approval of the court.
Dr Michelle Telfer, Head of Gender Services at Royal Children’s Hospital said the court made the right decision.
“It should be made between doctors, young person and their parents,” she said.
Tom Elliott disagreed, saying children often don’t know what’s best for them and something with irreversible consequences should go through court.
