Tom Elliott has voiced his concerns with Melbourne projected population by 2050, which was revealed to be nine million people during last week’s M2050 summit at Melbourne Town Hall.

The 3AW Mornings host pictured what Melbourne will be like with nine million people, and stated “there is no way we will ever, ever win world’s most liveable city again”.

“It will not be the same city,” he said.

“Both sides of politics are addicted to high immigration.

“It’s been forced upon us by our political leaders, no one’s asked us do we want Melbourne or Victoria to be that big, but it appears to be happening.”

Professor of economics from Monash University, Mark Crosby, thinks Melbourne’s projected population is “really problematic”.

“I think the point is to manage what we’ve got a lot better and not worry about trying to get to eight or nine or even seven million people,” Professor Crosby told Tom Elliott.
