Tom Elliott has questioned Australia’s priorities after discovering a sponsorship program for poverty-stricken children in Australia.

The Smith Family has run a program for the past 20 years which allows people to send any spare money to those in need.

The 3AW Drive host questioned why he knew about foreign aid programs, but not this one.

‘Where are our priorities? Where is our welfare system?’ Tom Elliott said.

‘Why have we got kids in Australia who can’t get a new pair of shoes to go to school, or schoolbag to put their lunch and books?

‘Why do we send billions of dollars overseas when we have these own poverty problems in our own backyard?

‘Surely we have an obligation to fix our own problems before everyone else’s.’
