Tom Elliott witnessed an accident outside the school drop-off on Thursday.

And it got him thinking.

The mother of a student opened the door of her parked station wagon, when a large dual cab utility drove past at a moderate speed and hit it.

It nearly ripped the door clean off.

‘There was a lot of swearing. Nobody was hurt, but they easily could have been,’ Tom Elliott said on 3AW Drive.

He wondered why so many people drove ‘monster trucks’ in the city and questioned their practicality and safety in city surrounds.

‘There was no way he could have seen her door open,’ the 3AW Drive host said.
