Tom Elliott questions whether it’s time to change driving test requirements
Tom Elliott has questioned whether the time has come for Victorian drivers to be tested on a semi-regular basis.
It comes on the back of TAC data that showed 70 per cent of road deaths were related to driver error.
Tom Elliott said he took his driving test in December, 1985.
He hasn’t been tested since.
The 3AW Drive host said he wondered if road safety would improve if drivers were required to be tested every 10 years.
“I know there will be howls of outrage here, but think about it,” he said.

He spoke about the issue with Katherine Collier, General Manager of METEC Driver Training.
She said inattention remained the biggest issue on the roads.
“There is not a lot of evidence that (re-testing) makes much difference,” she said.
She said an online refresher course wouldn’t hurt.
