Tom Elliott has questioned whether the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) has lost its way.

It comes after he saw the program schedule for the TV station during ‘prime time’ on Monday night.

The three shows between 7.30pm and 10.30pm were programs from the United Kingdom.

The public service broadcaster, which is partly-funded by the taxpayer, was set up to cater to ethnic minorities and migrant communities who do not speak English.

“I don’t see the point in having a part-publicly-funded broadcaster who just buys stuff off the BBC and plays it back to us?” Tom Elliott asked.

“Its mission, its role in life, is to help migrant communities.

“It might still do that? But in prime time it is showing stuff in English, to people who already speak English?”
