Tom Elliott reacts to ‘pretty dumb’ tweet from Adam Bandt

Tom Elliott has given Greens leader Adam Bandt a clip over a “pretty dumb” tweet he posted on Thursday.

The Member for Melbourne was tweeting his support for those who had received their VCE results.

He wrote it had been a “bloody tough year” and that students weren’t defined by their ATAR score.

“I agree with Adam on that,” Tom Elliott said.

But it was the rest of his tweet that raised eyebrows.

Mr Bandt wrote “Whether you want to be a lawyer, artist, miner, or just smoke weed for a year or two: I’m proud of you.”

“For a federal politician – the member for Melbourne – to imply it’s OK to sit there smoking bongs for a year or two … I would have thought that was a pretty dumb move,” Tom Elliott said.

But it wasn’t just the comment about “smoking weed” that caught Tom’s attention.

“I would have the Greens leader would have thought being a miner was a terrible thing?” he said.
