3AW Drive host Tom Elliott says he has come up with a possible solution for Melbourne’s homelessness problem.

‘We’ve got to do something about this,’ he says.

Tom is calling for a large boarding house, or similar, to be built in Melbourne’s outer suburbs.

‘We say to them (the homeless), here is a place to stay; it is paid for by the government, you will get a permanent fixed address if you want to stay there, as a result you will be able to access welfare.’

In a trade-off, Tom says that setting up camp under bridges, on footpaths or the sides of streets will be no longer allowed.

‘It’s just not acceptable.’
