Tom Elliott says Brexit is the right call for Britain long-term
Britain has voted to leave the European Union in a decision Tom Elliott says will be the ‘right one’ in future.
In a major shock, the vote to leave gained 52 per cent of the vote.
The decision immediately saw the British Pound drop to levels not seen since 1985.
The Australian share market also reacted negatively.
‘This is a huge shock, it’s a massive shock,’ Tom Elliott said on 3AW Drive.
‘But I think, long-term, this is the right decision.
‘Historically, Britain has always performed best when it was independent from Europe.’
Prime Minister David Cameron has since announced he’ll be resigning at some point over the next four months.

Dr Ben Wellings, Deputy Director at the Monash European and EU Centre, told Tom Elliott he was also stunned by the result.
He said it could lead to the break-up of the United Kingdom.
‘This is in many ways an expression of English independence, not so much British or UK independence,’ Dr Wellings said.
He said the European Union would ‘not take kindly’ to Britain’s withdrawal.

Tom Elliott said the decision would also likely impact the upcoming Australian election.
‘I think it’s probably good for Malcolm Turnbull and the Coalition,’ he explained.
‘What this decision has done has made the world suddenly a very uncertain place and when people are confronted by uncertainty, they usually stick with what they know.
‘Having said that, nobody thought Britain would vote the way it has.’
