Tom Elliott says carbon emission plan will ‘rip economic heart’ out of Gippsland
Tom Elliott says the ‘economic heart’ of Gippsland will be ‘ripped out’ by the state government if a report released this week is followed through.
The report said Victoria would have zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
‘That means we’ll have to shut down every power plant in Gippsland that currently uses brown coal,’ the 3AW Drive host explained.
‘Those plants are a huge part of eastern victoria’s economy.
‘A huge part.
‘Lots of wages are generated from them and those wages, in turn, support other businesses.
‘That is going to rip the economic heart out of that part of the state, I absolutely guarantee it.’
