Tom Elliott says compulsory sport, not a sugar tax, is the answer to obesity problem
Tom Elliott says a sugar tax isn’t the answer to solving obesity in Australia.
It follows yet another push for 20 per cent levy on soft drinks.
“I can tell you, nobody is going to stop drinking soft drink because we push the cost of a bottle from 75 cents to 90 cents, or $2 up to $2.40,” Tom Elliott said.
“My view on this is simple – make sport compulsory at school.
“Get every child growing up used to the idea that physical activity is a normal part of everyday life, even if you don’t like it. You should be forced to do it.
“When I was young, people had a pie and jam donut and can of coke for lunch but they ran it off – that is the problem with today’s generation.”
