Tom Elliott says he’s got a ‘cure’ for Australia’s problem with politician expenses

Tom Elliott says he’s got a ‘cure’ for the ongoing troubles with politicians and expenses.

The 3AW Drive host said politicians should be given a set lump sum allowance for the year.

‘How they’d spend it would be up to them,’ Tom Elliott said.

‘I’d give the Prime Minister and Treasurer a large sum, then the Cabinet ministers get a lesser some and backbenchers lesser than that.’

Tom Elliott said Australians were understandably fed up.

‘It has to stop,’ he said.

‘You cannot have a government that says to pensioners we need to cut your pension, or to others on benefits that we need to cut your benefits while at the same time, those same politicians have got their snouts well and truly in the trough.’
