He doesn’t want any sympathy, but Tom Elliott says he’s the victim of gender discrimination.

The 3AW Drive host was recently asked to apply for a speaking role at a function, only to be later told only female speakers were being considered.

‘I find that ridiculous,’ he said.

‘When you get somebody to speak, you should get the person for the job.

‘If the best person is male? Fine. Female? Fine. If they’re old? Fine. Young? Fine.

‘But you don’t say you can only have one gender.

‘Imagine if they’d said only men could apply for this position? They’d be hauled over the coals.

‘It’s not going to affect me personally, but this idea that it is OK to say ‘women only’ for particular roles I find very disturbing.’
