Tom Elliott slams James Hird for re-writing history

‘James Hird: you are delusional.’

Tom Elliott has taken aim at James Hird for attempting to re-write history.

Hird wrote a column in the Herald Sun that appeared to apportion blame for Essendon’s current plight to others. 

But Tom said Hird shouldn’t be trying to absolve himself of responsibility.

‘When you are the head coach, ultimately you are responsible for what happens to the players,’ Tom said on Friday.

‘James Hird admitted that three years ago. Now, it seems he’s had second thoughts.’

Tom said Hird’s knowledge, or lack thereof, of what was happening shouldn’t be a factor in 

‘Leaders fall on their swords when things go wrong, because the buck stops with them.’
