Tom Elliott slams ‘stupid’ suggestion by The Greens to abandon alliance with America

Tom Elliott has taken a bat to The Greens over suggestions Australia should ‘junk’ its alliance with the United States due to Donald Trump’s decision to ban people from several Muslim countries from entering America.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale said this week that Australia needed to ask itself whether its long-standing alliance with America was still in the national interest.

‘What a stupid thing to say,’ Tom Elliott said on 3AW Drive.

‘I tell you what ? back in 1942 ? the only thing that stopped Australia from being invaded by the Japanese was the arrival of the US Navy.

‘If hadn’t been for the Americans back then, Australia would have been toast.

‘Ever since then ? America has definitely been our biggest and best friend in the world.

‘For The Greens to say we should abandon our alliance, just because they don’t like a policy, is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.’
