Tom Elliott stunned by Moreland City Council spend

3AW Drive host Tom Elliott has been left stunned after a Moreland City councillor revealed roughly 75% of the money it raised each year in rates was spent on salaries.

Cr Oscar Yildiz told 3AW Drive the council took in roughly $90 million each year in rates.

He said $67 million of that paid for council salaries, leaving less than $25 million to be spent elsewhere.

‘I don’t think we’re as efficient as we can be,’ Cr Yildiz admitted.

‘There’s a lot of wastage.

‘We need to tighten the belt.’
