Tom Elliott has taken the AFL to task over its “limp” illicit drugs policy.

The 3AW Drive host said he had “zero sympathy for Jack Ginnivan” after he was caught taking drugs in a toilet at a Torquay hotel.

“The reason footballers, like him, keep taking drugs is because there is no punishment,” he said.

But Dr Nicole Lee, from the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University, said the evidence suggested otherwise.

“Whether you think, morally, people should be taking drugs, or not, the reality is that we know punishing people from using drugs doesn’t really stop them from using it,” she said.
