Tom Elliott takes aim at ‘lazy’ housing policy
Tom Elliott has panned Australia’s major political parties over their “lazy” approach to housing policy.
It comes after the Coalition unveiled their Super Home Buyer scheme, which will allow first home-buyers to use 40 per cent of their superannuation, up to $50,000, to put towards buying a home.
Labor has promised to guarantee up to 40 per cent of the purchase price for new homes and up to 30 per cent of the purchase price for existing homes under the Help to Buy scheme.
Tom Elliott says both policies are likely to be popular with young voters, but they’re incredibly short-sighted.
“They don’t actually do anything to go out and build more houses,” he said.
“They simply put more money into first home-buyers’ pockets, and that pushes up the price of existing houses.”
He said the Liberal and Labor parties appeared “desperate to buy votes” in the lead-up to Saturday’s election.
