Tom Elliott takes Catherine Deveny to task over Anzac Day comments
Feminist writer and comedian Catherine Deveny appears to have lit the fuse for this year’s Anzac Day controversy with a social media post that left Tom Elliott both shocked and angry.
Deveny took exception to the term “serve” when it came to the armed forces.
“It’s just a job,” she wrote.
Deveny stated that serving in the armed forces was “no more dangerous” than many other jobs.
“She is an absolute nutcase,” Tom Elliott said.
“What would a Left-wing, not very funny alleged comedian know about such a thing?”
Why do people in the armed forces use the word ‘serve’ to describe their work despite it being no more dangerous or prone to upheaval than many other jobs? It’s just a job and work. Throw the term ‘serve’ in the bin. It’s part of the fetishisation of war and violence.
