3AW Drive host Tom Elliott says he can’t understand why intent isn’t taken into consideration when it comes to issues like blackface.

A Perth mum has come under fire for dressing her young son as his football hero Nic Naitanui.

Tom Elliott said it wasn’t done in a derogatory manner, which should be taken into account.

‘I don’t understand why we can’t look at intent?’ Tom Elliott said.

‘Even Nic Naitanui himself admitted he used to think it was fine.

‘Then somebody told him he should read about blackface and then it wasn’t fine.

‘It’s his right to be offended, of course, and if he is ? that’s all there is to it.

‘But I personally don’t see a problem with a kid dressing up as his favourite footballer, I really don’t.’
