Tom Elliott’s snap reaction to Welcome to Country being booed at dawn service

Tom Elliott says a Welcome to Country has no place at an ANZAC Day dawn service.

Onlookers were shocked on Friday morning when a group of protesters opted to boo and jeer during the Indigenous leader’s performance.

The 3AW Mornings host said a dawn service was an event to honour the ANZACs, not for racial politics.

“I don’t believe we should be having Welcome to Country at a dawn service,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“The thing about Welcome to Country is we do it too often.”
