Pre-season training has been tough for the Cats – but some are just suckers for punishment.

Six of the players recently completed the famous Pier to Pub at Portsea, throwing a 1.2km open-water swim on top of training.

Forward Tom Hawkins was certainly not one of them.

Hawkins told Sports Today he didn’t have any interest in participating, due to recent shark sightings on Victoria’s surf coast.

‘I reckon I would be pretty appetising to munch on!’ he said.

Although he didn’t take part, he says the Cats that did had a ‘sensational’ day.

Hawkins believes the Cats are in for a good 2017 season despite recent list changes, including the loss of club legends Jimmy Bartel and Corey Enright.

‘You’re never going to be able to replace guys like Jimmy, but we’re still really positive where we can go in 2017.’
