Tony Abbott breaks ‘own promise’, time to leave politics, says Tom Elliott
Tony Abbott has been accused of going back on his word by Tom Elliott.
The 3AW Drive host said it was time for Mr Abbott to leave politics.
Mr Abbott appeared on Macquarie Radio on Tuesday, criticising those behind his downfall two weeks after he was overthrown by the party room.
Mr Abbott had previously promised to go quietly in his final address as Prime Minister.
‘Tony Abbott’s already broken his own promise,’ Tom Elliott said.
‘Tony Abbott, if you are good to your word, if you are not going to make life difficult for Malcolm Turnbull as Prime Minister, you should sit there quietly on the back bench, enjoy life for a while and then sometime, a bit before the next election, say that you are retiring from politics.
‘Otherwise? Fine, plot away, have destabilising interviews and meetings with colleagues, try and think about a set of circumstances that will catapult you back into the prime ministership.
‘Tony Abbott, if you are good to your word, it’s time to leave politics.’
