The National Retailers Association has described the growing costs of buying books and uniforms for school as ‘horrific.’

It follows claims Australia is the second most expensive country in the world for buying text books.

Tony Jones explored the issue on Wednesday, saying he felt for parents at this time of year as their children prepare to enter a new school year.

Many are forced to fork out hundreds of dollars for new books and uniforms.

‘Frankly, I think it’s bordering on a rip-off,’ he said.

Russell Zimmerman from the National Retailers Association agreed.

‘The costs are quite horrific,’ he said.
