New research has shown seniors are becoming more wealthy after retirement.

This has begged the question: should we encourage some retirees to spend more freely?

Michael O’Neill, CEO of Seniors Australia, told Tony Jones it can be hard to change people’s attitude towards money.

‘We encourage people to save across a lifetime, suddenly turning the switch the other way it a bit out of reach for most people,’ Mr O’Neill said on Tuesday.

Mr O’Neill said seniors may want to ‘consider’ spending more on things that are important to them, but only if there is an opportunity to do so.
