Tony Jones labels stamp duty tax an ‘absolute kick in the guts’ for homeowners
Tony Jones has labelled stamp duty tax an “absolute kick in the guts” for homeowners, particularly first home buyers, as new polling reveals almost 70 per cent of voters think the state government is not doing enough to make housing more affordable.
It comes as executive director of the Property Council of Victoria, Cath Evans, warns the chances of the state government meeting its target of 80 thousand new homes a year is “very, very slim”.
“I don’t buy the argument you can’t abolish stamp duty because the government relies on it so much … it’s a complete rip-off,” Jones said.
