Tony Jones shares the touching reason why his mum got married in a very unusual location
Earlier this month a couple in their 70s held their wedding in an out-of-the-ordinary location — Springvale Cemetery.
Both the bride and groom’s parents are buried at the cemetery, and the bride’s daughter, who was killed in a tragic road collision when she was only 19, was also laid to rest there.
The couple decided to have their special day at the cemetery, so their deceased loved ones could be involved.
Nine News sports reporter Tony Jones rang Neil Mitchell to tell him about the unique wedding.
“I guess I had a bit of a vested interest in it because … the bride is my mother,” he revealed.
“It was my wife’s idea actually to have it at the cemetery and when it was put to mum, with a fair bit of trepidation, she actually broke down because she’d been thinking of that but thought everyone would think she was morbid or mad for doing it.”
Tony Jones says there was a “real feeling” his sister was present on the day.
“Her and mum have missed out on a lot of precious time together and a lot of precious occasions,” he said.
“She’s been robbed of that, and the theory … was this should be one occasion she wasn’t robbed of.
“It’s a thing now, it is a thing with cemeteries to actually have weddings and other occasions there.”
