Tony Shaw says there’s only one way Nathan Buckley will be dismissed mid-season
Tony Shaw says the only way Nathan Buckley will leave Collingwood mid-season is if he walks.
Pressure is mounting on Buckley after the Magpies slumped to 1-4 with a defeat against arch-rival Essendon yesterday.
The Collingwood game plan has come under scrutiny as the team continues to dominate inside-50s but struggles to kick a winning score – the Pies are the third-lowest scoring team in the competition, less even than the winless Kangaroos.
Shaw, who left Collingwood as coach after steering the Pies to the 1999 wooden spoon, said there’s not much to be gained by removing Buckley mid-season.
‘I still don’t think it will be happening before the end of the season,’ Shaw said on 3AW Football.
‘The only way it will happen (mid-season) is, if they mathematically can’t make the finals, Nathan might do it himself.
‘You don’t get a lot out of getting new people in to fill a spot … if you know a person can think ahead and do the right thing for the club.’
