The EJ Whitten Legends Game is under fire for donating just 6% of proceeds to charity.

But AFL champion Tony Shaw told Neil Mitchell this isn’t news to football insiders.

‘It’s been known for a long time in footy circles,’ he told Neil Mitchell on Friday.

‘I never played in the game after finding out.’

Neil said the amount of donated money that doesn’t reach its intended destination is ‘ridiculous.’

‘It’s just a waste,’ Neil said.

And it’s all legal.

But Ted Whitten Jr from the EJ Whitten Foundation denied the problem is long-standing.

‘The funding has been going to the right institutions,’ he said.

He told Sports Today he is disappointed in how the story has been reported.
