Professor Peter Doherty isn’t your everyday life saver but he has saved tens of thousands of lives.

The Nobel Laureate in medicine is renowned for his research into the immune system and battling infectious diseases within human beings.

Despite his list of accolades, the softly-spoken Professor Doherty remains humble and told Neil Mitchell he felt science should be taught in a more relevant way, allowing people to engage more.

‘Science isn’t mysterious,’ he told Neil Mitchell. ‘It’s just about trying to find out what’s happening and get a good description of it.’

‘It’s also about trying to solve problems.’

Press play to listen to Professor Doherty’s full chat with Neil Mitchell.
