Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing Glenn Weir has provided an update on the horror crash in Chiltern, which killed four people yesterday.

An SUV collided with a B-double truck on the Hume Highway, with the top roads cop telling Neil Mitchell it appears there was little the truck driver could do to avoid the collision.

He also issued an urgent road safety warning stating September is a particularly high risk month on the roads, with 28 lives lost on the roads last September, the highest toll for the month in 16 years.
