Top roads cop ‘really concerned’ ahead of Easter long weekend
Victoria’s top roads cop is urging motorists to take care on the roads this Easter.
Police are launching a 12-day road safety blitz, with holiday road concerns are elevated after last weekend’s horror road toll — five lives were lost on the state’s roads in a single weekend.
Assistant Commissioner for road policing, Glenn Weir, says he’s “concerned about everywhere, to be honest”.
“The Mornington Peninsula, the Bellarine Peninsula, up into the High Country … down at Phillip Island and any of the beaches as well as metro,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.
“We’ve had a really bad start to April and we’re really concerned.”
Mr Weir shared his top three pieces of advice for motorists on the roads this weekend — “planning, patience and realising that it’s actually alright to be 10 minutes late”.
“Don’t set yourself unrealistic timelines,” he said.
