It’s been a tragic start to the Easter weekend on the state’s roads, with a man killed a fiery crash at White Hills in Bendigo at about 3.15am.

Assistant Commissioner for road policing, Glenn Weir, says he’s significantly concerned about crashes into fixed objects on regional roads, and the wet weather makes the situation more risky.

“We are seeing a significant increase in single vehicle off-road collisions in rural areas into fixed objects like trees,” he told Neil Mitchell.

More than 8000 infringement ntoices were issued during Victoria Police’s Easter long weekend road blitz last year.
