Tourism industry groups have hit out at the state government following unconfirmed reports of a 7.5 per cent levy on short term accommodations including Airbnb.

Chief executive officer of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, Felicia Mariani, says the industry agrees the government needs to do something about the housing crisis.

“Our problem with what is being proposed here, is once again, the consumer is being asked to put their hand in their pocket to pay for this issue,” she told Neil Mitchell.
