A group of tourists have been rescued from a construction site in the Redwood Forest in Warburton.

Emergency services were called to the site on Cement Creek Road at 6:30pm on Thursday, to find that the group “were on the wrong side of a collapsed bridge”.

“Reportedly they made their way into Redwood Forest, had themselves a bit of a picnic, and then tried to come back the same way but couldn’t get through the collapsed bridge or the bridge that is actually under construction,” Darryn Goss, captain of the Wandin Fire Brigade, said on 3AW Drive.

The bridge had a safety tether line for construction workers that the rescue team were able to use.

They put each member of the group in a safety harness and walked them back across one at a time.

The whole operation took around 90 minutes.
