Toxicologist tells Ross and John about the dangers of the new drug ‘flakka’
A powerful new hallucinogenic drug is believed to be part of a new wave of designer drugs that are cheap, readily available, and difficult to detect.
Authorities have raised concerns about the use of the drug, called ‘flakka’, known for its terrifying zombie-like effects, ahead of Schoolies Week.
Eight people have already been left in hospital on the Gold Coast.
Forensic toxicologist Andrew Leibie told Ross and John there are hundreds of new deadly synthetic drugs, and they’re difficult to detect.
‘They’re not detected by police roadside tests. They’re very hard for drug-sniffer dogs to detect,’ he said.
Mr Leibie said you can have the drug shipped to you online.
