Trades Hall Council backs paid sick leave scheme for casual workers

The Victorian Trades Hall Council has welcomed news the state government will implement a paid sick leave scheme for some casual workers.
Assistant Secretary Amanda Threlfall said the “devastating effects of insecure work” had been highlighted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At the moment we have a situation where the onus has been put on workers to come in attend work while sick,” she said.
“That’s no good.”
But she rejected any suggestion casual employees should have their pay rate cut as a result of the change.
