Tragic death at St Kilda Beach

A man has drowned at St Kilda.

Police were first notified that an unknown man had entered the water at St Kilda Beach, near the Bay Trail, and had not returned, at about 11.30pm last night.

A major search and rescue effort involving local police, water police and the air wing followed, but tragically the body of a man was located about an hour into the search.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

The tragic death, comes as the Royal Life Saving Society issues a water safety warning to people this Easter, after a noticeable increase in drownings post-lockdown.
