Train derails after hitting abandoned car

A V/Line train has derailed after hitting an abandoned car near Kangaroo Flat.

The incident happened approximately 140km north of Melbourne on the Bendigo line on Wednesday.

Around 80 people were on board, and emergency crews have treated up to eight people with minor injuries.

The front carriage of the high-speed VLocity train derailed on impact, however the train remains upright.

VLocity trains travel at speeds of up to 160kph.

V/Line has suspended all services on the Bendigo line and connections to Echuca. Buses will run between Castlemaine and Bendigo.

It appears the car was abandoned on the track, and police are now searching for the driver.
