Train carriages come off the rails in North Geelong

A goods train has come off the rails in North Geelong.

The Department of Transport was alerted to the incident near the Separation Street railway crossing at 11.20am.

Listener Barry says about eight carriages have come off the tracks.

“It will make a mess of the traffic in North Geelong because that intersection there is a major thoroughfare,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Chris Miller from the Department of Transport says the derailment has closed Separation Street, and there are delays of 70 minutes for V/Line trains on the Geelong line, but it’s not clear if the derailment is behind those delays.
