It’s feared race goers could be left stranded, amid speculation train drivers are preparing to take strike action.
Metro Trains suspects Melbourne Cup Racing Carnival could be hit by unprotected industrial action.
The Age reports the company is investigating claims some disgruntled train drivers are pressuring fellow staff members into refusing overtime and calling in sick.
Metro has written to drivers, warning against illegal industrial action, which could see trains cancelled during what is the busiest time of year for the rail operator.
But Rail Tram and Bus Union Locomotive Division secretary Marc Marcotta told Ross and John there will be no attempt to sabotage the racing carnival. ?
He acknowledged the high number of drivers turning down requests for overtime and calling in sick but says staff shouldn’t be driving trains if fatigued.
He says computer generated rosters were creating widespread fatigue.
Metro denies the rosters are unreasonable.
