Treasurer Scott Morrison has awarded ‘Muppet of the Year’ to the Melbourne primary school at the centre of the national anthem furore.

Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School has come under fire for inviting Islamic students to walk out of school assemblies during Advance Australia Fair.

The school cited a religious month of mourning as the reason, saying Shi’a students are not permitted to sing or listen to music.

The Treasurer said the school’s actions were ‘pathetic’.
