Truck carrying sweet potatoes rolls on Hume Freeway

The Hume Freeway is closed northbound at Benalla after a truck carrying sweet potatoes rolled in the early hours of this morning.

A car then collided with the truck and overturned.

Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach told 3AW Breakfast the B-double lost control about 12.30am.

“Sweet potato mash is now all over the road,” she said.

The driver of the truck was flown to hospital in Melbourne in a serious condition.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The northbound lanes will be closed until later this morning.
